The EU AI Act's next enforcement wave lands on 2 August: GPAI penalty powers and Article 50 transparency duties go live,
The Story
while Annex III high-risk system obligations just got pushed back sixteen months to December 2027.
Why It Matters
If your business uses Copilot, chatbots, or any AI that generates content, images, or video for customers, the 2 August deadline is real: you must disclose AI interactions and label synthetic content, with fines up to 15 million euros or 3 percent of global turnover. But the more demanding high-risk system rules, covering AI used in hiring, credit scoring, or biometric ID, are not due until December 2027 under May's Digital Omnibus deal, because the technical conformity standards were not ready in time.
What To Do About It
Audit any customer-facing AI feature, chatbots, generated images, video, or voice, for the mandatory disclosure and watermark requirement before 2 August. If you were rushing a full AI risk-management file for this summer because of high-risk classification, stand down and re-sequence that work against the real December 2027 date instead.
